Video: “Portrait of an Intersection”, Fes

June 16, 2010

The following sequence was shot in the medina of Fes, Morocco, over a period of 74 minutes. The camera was set up on a tripod in a locked position, pointed directly at the cross section of a “T’ intersection. By choosing a simple background and a location off of the main streets in the medina, my goal was to capture the essence of the people inside the medina and strip away the market atmosphere.

Portrait of an intersection:

April 23, 2010

Two narrow streets meet to create an intersection, the medina’s high walls punctuate the three dimensional T shape. Sound and movement reverberates in a tight space. I choose to set up a shot with the camera pointed directly at the intersection where the trunk to the “T”, meets the top of the “T”, essentially putting blinders on my lens. I set up and patiently waited, anticipating sounds and unseen movements as they approached the intersection, I wondered who and what would walk into my view. What follows is a cross section, a portrait of a medina intersection, between 4:45pm and 5:30pm, on the 21st of April, 2010.

Chasing the light out to the sea as fisherman off load the night’s catch, through the medina as the market wakes up to the dawn light. These photos are from my first day finding my way and observing.  Please click on the image below for the complete gallery.
